More about the designer Simon Harrison Profile

“Jewellery should be fun, a social icebreaker, a point of focus that can spark a conversation between friends or strangers”.

After graduating from art school towards the end of the 1970s, Simon began designing customised silver buttons and jewellery for fashion designers Bill Gibb, Zandra Rhodes, Elizabeth Emanuel, Bruce Oldfield and Jean Muir. This was the beginning of a long association with the world of fashion. During the 1980s and 90s this work quickly grew into an international business covering a wide range of jewellery product related issues. In his capacity as a consultant Simon was involved in establishing international fashion jewellery ranges for Swarovski and own-brand jewellery ranges for Wedgwood, Liberty, The V&A and the British Museum. Simon’s client list reads like a “Who’s Who” of fashion, including Vivienne Westwood, John Galliano, Givenchy and many others.

Simon Harrison’s deepest motivation and enjoyment of jewellery, he says, is intuitive, and archetypal, not so very different from primitive man’s impulse to wear a beautiful shell around his neck. Jewellery, he believes, should be life-enhancing, an expression of personality. “Jewellery should be fun, a social icebreaker, a point of focus that can spark a conversation between friends or strangers”.
